Fortes 'Classic Safaris' Itinerary
A real African experience
Day 1 |
| We depart from Arusha this afternoon for Lake Manyara.
The drive, on mainly sealed roads, passes through the arid plains
on the outskirts of Arusha. |

We then pass through the tree lined centre of Mto wa Mbu, a colourful,
bustling maasai trading post. The road then climbs onto the highlands
which edge of Great Rift Valley. Your accommodation tonight is at
the Kirurumu Luxury Tented Camp. The camp enjoys a reputation for
being eco-friendly, great care has been taken to build with sensitivity
to the environment. The tents are first class with en-suite facilities,
electric lights, large comfortable beds and a delightful verandah
to relax on. |
| Around the camp there are many botanical walks, and
opportunities for bird watching. |
Day 2 |

We depart after breakfast, via Olduvai Gorge, made famous when
remains of early humans were found here. We visit the historical
Museum and learn all about the first footsteps of mankind. After
a picnic lunch we drive into the Serengeti National Park. There
is a game drive this afternoon before we check in at our hotel.
We stay at Serengeti Sopa, which is located near the centre of the
Serengeti National Park, which is close to the best game viewing areas.

Day 3 |
| After an early breakfast we have a full days game
drive in the Serengeti, we take a picnic lunch in the bush to maximise
game viewing time. An early start gives us the best chance of seeing
the big predators such as lion, leopard and perhaps even a cheetah. Later in the day we will explore the
plains and the rocky outcrops where animals often rest. Enjoying a relaxed dinner at the lodge. |
Day 4 |
| After breakfast enjoy a game drive on route to the
world famous Ngorongoro Conservation Area. We take a picnic lunch
then the vehicles climb into the highlands surrounding the crater,
were we will see Maasai in their traditional dress herding cattle.
We overnight at the Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge. This lodge is perched
on the rim of Ngorongoro Crater as we dine we can enjoy the unsurpassed
views down into the crater. |
Day 5 |

After breakfast we have a full day in the crater with picnic lunch.
The crater with its unforgettable blue-tinted slopes, swampy grassland,
lakes, and woods, is home to 30,000 animals, many of which you will
see today. Lion, hyena, cheetah, the rare black rhinos, zebra, warthog,
buffalo, wildebeest and abundant bird life, can all be seen. |
| In the late afternoon we ascend the crater, and enjoy the views
from the high ridge which borders it. On one side a last sight of
the crater and lake, on the other spreads the fertile Karatu

| Tonight being your last night, you are
in for a special treat, the Maasai Experience at E Unoto lodge will
cap off a wonderful trip. Built against the escarpment of the Great
Rift Valley this lodge has been constructed with environmental issues
in mind. The lodge resembles an authentic Maasai Village but offers
all the comforts of a good hotel. You can relax by the pool, and
be pampered by your own personal butler. A sumptuous
dinner is served in the open-sided restaurant overlooking the lake. |
Day 6 |
This morning after breakfast you have the option of a Cultural
Excursion to a nearby traditional Maasai Village, where you can
meet Maasai and discuss their way of life and customs. You can also
go for a nature walk and picnic with Maasai guides. Or if you prefer
you can simply relax by the pool.
After lunch we will head back to Arusha. |

| These prices for our 'African Experience' safari are based on
shared twin rooms (for the single room supplement please contact
us). All prices include a private vehicle for your group, full board
accommodation, driver/guide, all park fees, and entry to Olduvai
Museum. |
