Tailor Made Safaris
Here is a selection of some of our more popular options.
Any of these can be used as part of a tailor made safari, or added to
one of our existing schedules.
Either use the index below to jump to the section you
are interested in, or browse through them all and see what tempts you.
If there is something that you want to do and you don't find it on this
list, just contact us and describe what you are interested in. With
more than 20 years experience we may well have done something similar
before, and if we haven't then there's no one better qualified to advise
you on how to make your dream come true. We love a challenge, and if
your request is possible (and legal!) we are the ones to make it happen.
Balloon Safaris
| Enjoy a wonderfull trip over the Serengeti plains in a hot air balloon, spoil yourself on a
champagne breakfast and emmerse yourself in the splendor that is Tanzania. |
Cultural walks
 |
If you feel like getting to know this area in a little more depth,
then one of the best ways is to move like the locals and
walk. We can offer several different cultural visits, which use
trained local guides, and take you on short walks into the heart
of village communities. These tours involve and benefit local people
directly, ensuring that you both enjoy a fascinating insight into
African village life, and contribute to maintaining these traditional
ways of life. You can choose to visit a farming community on the
slopes of Mount Meru, to walk with Maasai people as they herd their
cattle, or to join them as as they gather to gossip and haggle at
a local cattle market. |
Game Viewing
| It doesn't seem right to visit Tanzania without seeing
a little of it's world renown wildlife. |
| If your time is limited then a quick day trip to the nearby Arusha
National Park will provide a good chance of seeing amongst others Giraffe, Warthog,
Buffalo, Hippo and Colobus Monkeys.
With a little more time it's possible to visit Lake Manyara, or
even the world renowned Ngorongoro Crater. These parks offer a good
chance of seeing a whole range of birds, animals, plants, and scenery.
If you have three or more days then we recommend the legendary Serengeti
National Park. |
|
| Although it is possible to make a quick visit to this park we
feel that its vast area, abundant wildlife, and varied habitat merits
a little longer. |
| Why not get in contact and let us share our enthusiasm
and advise you on how best to plan a rewarding game viewing safari. |
Partner Trips
| If you come to Tanzania with a partner who plans to climb Kilimanjaro
before you both go on a game viewing safari then Fortes has plans
for you. After several requests from 'abandoned' partners we have
developed several short but rewarding trips to ensure that you are
not left kicking you heels while your other half climbs to the roof
of the world. Since we created this unique service it has also been
used by partners of people here for work, and conferences. |
| We have a whole range of options from a short day out in Arusha,
with some souvenir shopping, and a good spot for lunch, right through
to bird watching and wildflower hunting trips around the area. |
| Contact us and we can either give you a list of ideas to suit
your time frame, or come up with a trip tailored to your special
interests. |
Family Safaris
| Whilst any Fortes Safari is suitable for families
with kids, if you want to make extra certain that both you and the
youngsters have a excellent and hassle free time, we have some good
ideas for you. With kids of our own we have a good understanding
of how to make a trip exciting for everyone. |
 |
For families with smaller children we can advise you on itineraries
with shorter journey times, more regular stops and extra child friendly
accommodation. Whatever you will need, early meals, extra beds,
or special food.. we can organise it for you. |
| If you have bigger kids we can suggest a whole range of activities
that will keep them happy. Although almost all kids love to be out
in the wilds and get a real thrill from spotting the animals, some
kids appreciate it all the more with a few of their own favourite
activities thrown in. Whether it's mountain biking or practicing
archery with traditional hunter gatherers, Fortes has lots of fun
ideas, and can arrange everything for you. With kids in their teens
we can even arrange for you to spend some time pursuing your interests
separately. |
| So if you want some peace to go bird watching at
Lake Manyara, let us take the youngsters off to burn some energy
canoeing or riding camels and visiting a snake park. |
Honeymoons and Weddings
| What could be more romantic than a wedding or honeymoon in the
African bush? If a few nights in a secluded and luxurious lodge
aren't enough why not add a balloon flight over the Serengeti plains,
a night in a Sultan's palace in Zanzibar, or perhaps a few days
on the palm fringed beach of a secluded island. We have lots of
ideas on how to make your special occasion into an unforgettable
experience, and we'd really love to arrange something extraordinary
for you. Get in contact and we will get excited with you.

Horse Riding
Riding a horse over the Maasai steppe, or into the great rift valley is
an unforgettable event. If you are an experienced rider we can arrange
a challenging expedition and competent riding guides to go with you. You
can choose to make rides out from a lodge to explore the surrounding area,
or if you like to camp you can make a longer trip and camp along the way.
Whatever you prefer let Fortes ensure you have the best mounts available
and the logistical support that makes for a good ride.
Zanzibar
| The famous tropical spice island of Zanzibar has drawn travelers
for centuries. Home to the unique Swahili culture, which blends
African, Arabic and Indian cultures, the islands long rich history
is evident in the many historical sights and in the living culture
of it's friendly inhabitants. The island is dotted with the ruins
of Arabic palaces and forts, and plantations of fragrant cinnamon
and clove trees. It has many beautiful beaches and coral reefs,
and the warm, calm, clear water means great swimming, snorkeling
and diving. We recommend a couple of nights in the historic Stone
Town and as much time as you can spare to relax at the beach. |
|
Pangani
 |
Do you want to experience the palm fringed beaches, the coral
and fish, and the Swahili culture of the Indian Ocean Coast, without
the hustle and bustle of busy Zanzibar? Why not let us share our
own favourite 'secret' destination on the coast with you. We can
arrange for you to stay at a select and intimate lodge in Pangani,
on Tanzania's mainland coast. This area like Zanzibar is steeped
in history and Swahili culture. Here you can enjoy the beaches,
diving, fishing, and water sports, and the very highest standards
of accommodation. |
