Vehicle Rentals |
|
Renters are required to recognize and promptly repair leaking or punctured tires. |
|
Renters are required to check and refill water and oil reservoirs regularly (vehicles driven in town weekly/in the bush daily). |
|
Renters are liable for the costs of repairs due to negligence (bent rims occur when punctured or leaking tires are not fixed, gasket heads are blown when water levels are too low). |
|
Renters are required to replace broke windscreens, widows, mirrors and damaged tires. |
|
Renters are required to replace items lost or stolen from a vehicle (including spare tires, jacks and tools rented with the vehicle). |
|
Monthly rentals are intended for town use only. Please inform the office if you would like to take the car out of Arusha. |
|
Vehicles may not be taken across international borders. |
|
On arrival you will have to present a passport and valid driving license |
|
A security deposit in the form of imprint or cash is required |
|
You will be required to sign a car hire contract before the vehicle is released to you |

Insurance |
| |
Self drive vehicles carry only third party insurance this insurance will cover damages to the other vehicle/third party. The renter is liable for the full cost of damages to the rented vehicle.
Comprehensive Insurance- Insurance that covers loss or damage to the rented vehicle by accident, theft, fire and insured legal liability arising out of death or bodily injury to third parties and damage to third party property. Comprehensive insurance is available at an additional cost to renters who would like additional coverage. |

Drive defensively |
|
Please be careful when parking in Arusha and other towns. |
|
Lock the vehicle and close all windows. Vandalism of unattended cars is common. |
|
Park in designated parking areas only. There is a fee of approximately 50 USD for parking in an unauthorized area. |
|
The parking fee (in Arusha) for rented vehicles is 1000TSH per day. Parking attendants wearing uniforms will collect the fee and give you a parking ticket. Display the ticket on the dashboard. |
|
You may be stopped by the police for a vehicle inspection to check for valid plate registration and insurance and safety equipment (two triangles and a fire extinguisher) |

Breakdowns |
| |
All vehicles are checked and serviced before being rented out however, because of the rough driving conditions of Tanzania there are times that there are unexpected problems with vehicles. |

|
Renters of town vehicles are required to bring their vehicles to the Fortes garage for all repairs when the vehicle has a problem while in town. |
|
All renters may take vehicles to an area garage when a minor problem occurs while on safari. |
|
When you bring a vehicle to any garage please do not leave valuables in the vehicle (even the car tool kit) as it is common for items to be stolen at the garage. |
|
If you have a major breakdown while out of Arusha please contact Fortes Safaris (numbers listed below). |
|
In the case of a major breakdown Fortes will supply a mechanic and a new vehicle as soon as possible. Drivers cannot travel at night time so it if a breakdown occurs late in the day a driver can be sent no sooner than early the next morning. |
|
Breakdown service is only available in the Northern Circuit (Arusha, Tarangire,.Manyara, Serengeti National Parks, Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Lake Eyasi. |

Accidents |
| |
|
In the event of an accident contact the police (Arusha: , Karatu: , Serengeti: ) and contact Fortes Safaris. It is mandatory that you received a police report for any traffic accident. |
|
After an accident do not leave the vehicle unattended as it is common for unattended vehicles to be vandalized. |
|
Fortes Safaris will supply a vehicle to replace your damaged vehicle if there is one available. Availability cannot be guaranteed. |
|
If the driver or passenger of the vehicle requires medical attention we recommend the following medical services. |

Deposits |
Safaris require a nonrefundable deposit of 75% of the total cost to reserve a vehicle and accommodation.
Self Drive Vehicle Rentals require a nonrefundable deposit of 50% of the total cost to reserve the vehicle.
Please let us know as soon as you have made the transfer by sending the following information:
Name of the bank from which the transfer was made
Name of account holder
Name of depositor if different than the name of the account holder
Exact amount of deposit
Exact date of transfer
It is only after receiving the confirmation of your transfer that we can confirm your reservations. In only a days delay you risk losing lodge and camp reservations. |

Payment of remaining balance |
| |
The remaining balance may be paid when the vehicle is pickup up at the Fortes Safaris offices in Sakina. We prefer that the balance be paid in US dollars. We accept only notes of 50 USD and above and do not accept any notes printed before the year 2003.
In certain circumstances, we will accept Mastercard only or travelers cheques. For credit card payments a charge of 7% of the total balance will be added to cover processing fees we incur. Payments using traveler’s cheques require a charge of 1% of the balance total and USD 75/- additional bank charges. We also accept Euros and Pounds Sterling.
There are no refunds for vehicles returned earlier that the date agreed upon at the time of rental. |

General Infomation |

All vehicles are equipped with 2 spare tires, a high lift jack and a basic tool kit.
Camping supplies are also available for self drive clients other than those using the Camping Land Rover. Please ask FORTES for a list of supplies and the rental rates
The Northern Circuit includes- Arusha, Tarangire, Manyara and Serengti National Parks, Ngorongoro Conservartion area, Loliondo and Lake Natron.
Vehicle hire to other parks are available but the rates differ from the above rates.
None of the above price quotes include park fees. Please refer to the Park Fees section of this document for information on fees to various Northern Circuit Parks.
All Self Drive clients need to have a valid International or Tanzanian Driving License. |

Returning Vehicles |
| |
Vehicles must be dropped off at the Fortes Safari Sakina Office during office hours.
Vehicles must be returned in the condition with which they were rented out aside from general wear and tear from a safari. Vehicles will be inspected for loss and damage. Charges will be deducted from cash security deposits or charged to the renter’s credit card according to the preference of the renter.
There are no refunds for vehicles returned earlier than the agreed return date set at the time of rental. |
